Dr. Job’s AI Cover Letter Tool helps you generate a personalized cover letter in seconds and gives you full control to edit, refine, or save it for future use. You can also create a general cover letter that automatically attaches when you apply to jobs, including through Auto Apply.
Here’s how to use and customize the tool, step by step.
Step 1: Open the AI Cover Letter Tool
- From the top menu, go to AI Tools > AI Cover Letter
Step 2: Fill in the Cover Letter Details
Use the form on the right to enter:
- Your name, email, and phone number
- Your personal address
- Company name and job position (optional )
- Select skills and education from your profile
- Paste or type the job description you want the letter tailored to
- Choose your preferred language
Optional: You can also tick the “Default cover letter” box if you want this version saved and automatically attached when you apply to jobs or use Auto Apply.
Step 3: Generate the Letter
Click “Write My Cover Letter”. The AI will instantly generate a tailored letter based on your inputs.
You’ll see the letter appear on the left. It includes:
- A greeting
- A customized introduction
- A skills and experience section
- A closing paragraph
Step 4: Edit and Customize the Letter
You can edit the letter directly in the text box:
- Click anywhere in the text to start editing
- Replace any placeholder tags like [Insert Location]
- Add your own examples, achievements, or personal notes
Edits will not be lost unless you click "Write My Cover Letter" again and regenerate a new version.
Step 5: Finalize and Export
Once you're happy with the content, choose how to use your cover letter:
- Download PDF for a ready-to-send file
- Download Word for further editing
- Share to my email

Using a General (Default) Cover Letter
If you want a reusable cover letter that works for multiple jobs:
- Select the checkbox labeled “Default cover letter (Auto-attached when applying)”
- This version will automatically be used when you:
- Apply to jobs manually through Dr. Job
- Use Auto Apply to submit applications
You can update or replace your default cover letter at any time by creating a new one and selecting the checkbox again.
Tips for Best Results
- Keep your cover letter clear, concise, and tailored
- Always replace placeholders before sending
- Use the default option only when your letter is broad enough for multiple job types
